dream parks denver 2002
adam longnecker had started the concrete challenge series and it was very succesful for a couple years prior to this
contest. it built a lot of momentum for rippers coming out to colorado for a good time. since adam wasnt doing one
in 2002, Sonja then caudel, now Deans, decided to put one together. she was working at a place called proxy and did
it in conjunction with them. she used all her skate contacts and shaped together and awesome bowl and street contest
at Dnever city park. back in 2002, D park was one of the best things going in the colorado skate scene. here's the
results:
the bowl contest was great. both heats and the finals were in jam format, which provoked pretty intense sessions.
then there was the pbr fuel, as almost everyone was pretty drunk with pabst being one of the main sponsers. i think
this photo captures the essence of the evening. patch just kept going fast as usual with company in the bowl,
while chet stayed on the alert, clobbering tricks in the process. in this hairy moment, we have patch cruising
frontside over the hip while crooks creeps by below.

brian patch went higher than anyone and his body jars were louder than anything. his grinds were so long he was
missing lines. he was very amusing as an MC. his ollie to grinds over the hip were in true patch style. he won
the bowl. he won the best trick. his girlfriend is smoking hot.
brian patch calmy directing a lein air. later, a wasted out-of-control spectator saw the other side of brian
as he clobbered the dude who punched bryan pennington.
cameron mate, from australia, is another one who recently became a denver local. his solid lines that included
big hawaiian grabs and a bunch of lip/smith combos, got him in the money.
chet was having blast and skating great. he had some stylish original tricks like lein grabs in, lein to tail
reverts in over the steps, les twist revert, shuffles out of every grind and backside blunt slides. he got the
style award of the jam for sure.
california transplant jason mitchell skates this bowl like 1 big wave. he was screeching slides of all sorts all
around and stepping on the coping for big foot plants, like this backside sweeper.
salba slobs stylishly while setting for something. salba made the finals, but opted to not skate. lip tricks and
airs all over the place and back to back.
dave did drink alot and he did do some incredible beer runs. during 1 run, he grabbed a spectators beer during
a roll out, then bonlessed in with it and continued to drink during airs, grinds and tail stalls. hell of a show
science fair skated pumped the whole time. the crowd screamed for more as tons of the media got in daves way and
he always barreled through. it was true determination to roll out and in.
home bowl advantage, wrex cook backside air
logic tells me wrex keeps moving around colorado to the town with the biggest bowl. wrex might be higher in
crested butte and aspen, but he sure gets higher in denver. gravity games in thicker air
new denver resident wrex cook can tear this bowl. great lines with lip tricks and big airs mixed throughout. oh,
and killer inverts like this 1 footer.

al partanen laying back in the digitial world
defending champ benji galloway was back with a couple of new tricks. after the best trick contest he got upset
about how the crowd voted for patch. bringing it up with drunk announcer dave tuck didnt help any. i heard patch
was gonna split the $ with him but never did. it was confusing and big cash went like that, but somewhere i think
chet's melon grab off the deck into the waterfall was pretty sick and needs to be mentioned. and he would probably
want me to mention how those guys all had there pads on. well except for science who was padless and barefoot for
the whole best trick...
daves been skating barefoot alot lately. hell, he skated the whole best trick that way. theres not many tricks
he cant get to in his bag barefoot. maybe the next warp will be on the banana board and barefoot...

patch while some shit bag gets the clip
salba came out
good crowd, but fuck those airwalk banners
wrex has reason to celebrate, he won 2 grand and didnt have drive more than 10 minutes from his home. and how
about local dave davis? he took home almost 4g's from skating the park like he normally does almost every day.
jerrys grabs n graphic
friday nite was a good session as lots of the riders were just getting in town and the lights are on till 11.
patch, salba, hewitt, science and al partanen were blazing around the bowl with their style fallin out all over.
after the lights went down the lip went up in flames. sciences jumps on the chance to play with fire.
science wasnt done after it was over- a new prop just opened up.

Best Trick Street- ($1,750)
Dave Davis
dave did a bunch of tech tricks all over the street course, and then jesse did this gap, and then everyone was
doing the gap. somehow it came down to a showdown between jesse and dave on the gap and neither made their trick.
so the crowd then voted for hometown hero dave and he graciously gave half to jesse.
Best Trick Bowl- ($1,750)
Brian Patch
it wasnt really a best trick contest from alot of peoples point of view. after 30 minutes or so of jam, tuck
asked the crowd to vote for who they wanted.to win. it didnt have anything to do with tricks, the crowd was just
most impressed with patch, and it was easy to hear. benji figured it to be a popularity contest(and he sure isnt
gonna win one of those)
airwalk team manager was complaining about the lack of quality skaters that showed up...
